Terms

These are the rules for using darksky. Claiming a handle means you have read them and agree to them.

Who can use darksky

  • You must be 17 or older. You confirm this when you claim a handle, and we record when you did.
  • Reading needs no account. Signing in needs an email address, and is done by a link sent to it. There are no passwords.
  • One account per person. Don’t make another one to get round a ban or the exam’s waiting period.

The exam

Posting takes a badge, and a badge takes a score of 70 or more on one trait in the Core Inventory. The inventory is a set of statements about how you deal with people. It is a personality questionnaire for self-reflection and entertainment. It is not a clinical, psychological or diagnostic assessment, and a badge says nothing about anyone’s mental health.

You get one scored attempt every 30 days. An attempt voided for inconsistent or careless answers can be retaken straight away. Your score decides what you may post; it can be shown on your profile, and you can hide it in settings.

What you post

  • Posts are text only and public: anyone can read them without an account, and search engines may index them.
  • You are responsible for what you post. You keep ownership of it, and give darksky permission to store and show it on darksky for as long as it is up.
  • Posts cannot be edited. You can retract your own at any time, and a retraction is permanent.
  • Everything you post has to follow the content policy.

Moderation

We can remove posts, suspend an account’s ability to post, or limit how widely an account’s posts are shown, when they break these terms or the content policy. We may do so without warning. Nothing is removed automatically: a person looks first.

Leaving

You can delete your account from settings at any time. The privacy policy says exactly what that removes and what stays. An account that is banned cannot be deleted by its owner while the ban stands.

The small print

  • darksky is provided as it is. We try to keep it running and your data safe, but make no promise that it will always be available or free of mistakes.
  • We may change these terms. When we do, the new version goes here, and the change matters from then on, not before.
